The simplest vegan meatballs recipe
Don’t get me wrong, I love meatballs. But I also love having options and eating less meat. And there were times I was craving meatballs with nice spaghetti and tomato sauce. But I didn’t have any meat at home so I ended up making spaghetti only with tomato sauce. And that was it. Maybe a little bit of cheese on top if I was lucky enough to have SOME cheese in the fridge.
Why these ingredients?
So, I was thinking about an easy vegan meatballs recipe that you can make at home. I usually have enough packages of soy products because I like faking meat with some other products from time to time. I also love chickpeas and I cannot have enough of them at my house. So the main ingredients were a clear choice.
Vegan meatballs have to be seasoned right. You can use more of the basic seasonings like black pepper, salt, garlic powder etc, You, don’t have to run to get adobo or some sesame oil. Stick to your basics.
So here’s a short recipe for vegan meatballs:
90 g soy granules
- cook in the boiling water
- mix in the food processor:
- 1 onion
- 240 g chickpeas
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp adobo
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 3 tsps dry basil
- add everything into a bowl and mix with 100 g breadcrumbs, cooked and cold soya granules, and chopped fresh basil.
- make balls (smaller are better)
- fry on the low medium heat on every side until brown

- food processor
Ingredients
- 90 g soy granules
- 1 onion
- 240 g chickpeas
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 clove garlic
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ tsp adobo
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 3 tsps dry basil
- 100 g breadcrumbs
- fresh basil for extra flavor
Instructions
- Cook soy granules in the boiling water.90 g soy granules
- Add chopped onion, garlic, washed chickpeas, seasoning, and oil in the food processor, and mix until smooth.1 onion, 240 g chickpeas, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 clove garlic, ½ tsp salt, 1 ½ tsp adobo, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp sesame oil, 3 tsps dry basil, ½ tsp black pepper
- When everything is nicely smooth, transform the mixture into a bigger bowl. Add breadcrumbs, cooked soy granules with chopped fresh basil.100 g breadcrumbs, fresh basil, 90 g soy granules
- Make balls by hand. I prefer making smaller balls as you can enjoy the right amount of ingredients and flavors.
- Fry the vegan meatballs on medium-low heat with the few drops of olive oil on each side for a few minutes. Fry until they're brown on each side.
Notes
- you can make these vegan meatballs for whatever meal you like – not only for spaghetti
- they can be served with a dipping sauce, rice, or potatoes
